What is a locating ring?
The locating ring is an industrial equipment which is part of the "centering" function products of the standard elements of the Rabourdin catalog. It is a molding tool that can also be found in general mechanics. Made of alloy or stainless steel, the locating ring is fixed to its support by means of two or more anchor points located equidistant from the zero point. It ensures a high precision centering between the elements in the tools made up of a fixed part (the mold) and a mobile part.
What are the characteristics of a locating ring ?
In addition to the characteristics of the materials and the tolerance of the locating ring, which precisely meet the standards established by ISO 10907 (and its variations depending on the type of locating ring), you must take into account the following different dimensions to make your choice.
The locating ring type A and B is characterized by the total diameter of the part (dimension A), the inclination of the outer bevel (dimension C) and the thickness of the mold locating ring. The distance between the two anchor points (dimension B), their diameters (stop/inside) and the diameter of the centering zone (dimension D) must also be taken into consideration. The locating ring type C and D has a bevelled centering area.
Each measurement must be carefully considered to ensure the solidity of the anchorage on the device and the fineness of the centering.
Our selection of centering rings
We offer in our Rabourdin catalog a selection of 5 locating rings for molds. The four models referenced 605, 615, 617, 627 offer different diameter dimensions A, B, C and D depending on the ring. The fifth model, reference 646, which is also a locating ring for molds, consists of a centering zone tapped at a 90° bevel. It is available in four different shapes and has different dimension references, for example dimension A which corresponds to the thickness of the part, dimension D1 which corresponds to the diameter of the locating ring outside the external stop zone, dimension D2 which corresponds to the diameter of the base of the centering zone...
